Who is the Scriptwitch?
I'm a professional scriptwriter, story developer and script writing teacher. I studied English, Drama and Performance at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and spent my first professional decade as a performer in theatre, film and radio. Now I write professionally for a number of media, but one of my passions is teaching and developing other writers. I love comedy, and I've had the best fun writing TV sitcom. I've written episodes for a number of series over the years: for Penguin Films’ hugely popular Stokvel , SOS and Going Up SABC, as well as for the Mzanzi Magic series Chandies launched in 2012. My more serious TV work includes storylining and writing on 2 seasons the Mzanzi Magic series ISIKIZI and the third season of the legal drama Sokhulu and Partners
I've held lecturing positions at AFDA Film School (Cape Town) where I was Screenwriting HOD for 3 years, at Cape Town’s City Varsity and at UCT, and I've presented sections of both the Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in Film and Media at UCT for a stretch of 6 years. After teachig and facilitating film and television studies on an ad hoc basis at a number of local tertiary institutions, I have now been in a permanent lecturing position at City Varsity in the film department, teaching screenwriting for visual media since the start of 2015. When I'm not there, I teach, consult and assist with story development privately as SCRIPTWITCH.
A couple of highlights to tell you about: in 2011 I was invited to facilitate alongside internationally renowned development executive and producer Humphrey Barclay in the comedy module for Entertainment Master Class, and early in 2012 I ran a content development workshop for M-NET Africa in Dar Es Salaam. And in 2016 I was nominated for a WGSA Muse award for best TV drama script - didn't win, but the competition was awesome!
